PECO INSPX HELPS CANNERS ELIMINATE COOKER JAMS IN CANNING APPLICATIONS USING SIDE-VIEW X-RAY INSPECTION MACHINES

One of the biggest sources of downtime in canning applications is cooker jamming due to can irregularities.  Cans with extreme dents or gross seam defects can jam spiral cookers, causing massive downtime as the entire cooker needs to cool before it can be cleared, which can take several hours and cost tens of thousands of dollars in lost production.  Overfilled cans present a different type of challenge as they can explode in the cooker, causing an even more time consuming clean-up.

Fortunately, Peco InspX side-view X-Ray systems can completely eliminate cooker jams by removing damaged or over-filled containers from the production line before they enter the cooker. Using specialized container verification software, Peco InspX X-Ray systems can examine the entire can and readily identify container integrity abnormalities in all commercial can sizes up to full gallon (Number 10) cans.

Additionally, Peco InspX systems robust design and construction mean that the X-Ray system can be located immediately post seamer, which is critical as this is the location on the production line where most facilities can accommodate an inspection machine. Fortunately the high speed capabilities of the Peco InspX SHIELD system mean that there is no canning application too fast to be properly inspected (Peco InspX systems routine run at speeds over 2000 containers per minute).

Finally the simplicity and robustness of the Peco InspX X-Ray design ensures very high uptime and when the machine needs service, Peco InspX’s remote support platform allows fast diagnosis and repair – in fact over 95% of customer issues are successfully resolved via remote support.
