PECO INSPX ANNOUNCES: Advanced X-Ray Inspection for PET Containers at Midwest Food Processors Association 2018 Show

San Carlos, California – November 19, 2018

Peco InspX, the world’s leader in automated X-ray inspection, continues to innovate food and beverage inspection. Peco’s latest SHIELD systems will be on display at the 2018 Midwest Food Processors Association Show, November 27 – 29 at the Kalahari Resort at the Wisconsin Dells. Featured at this year’s show are Peco’s latest X-ray imaging enhancements, which help dramatically improve detection performance in non-uniform products.

Non-uniform products have historically challenged X-ray systems because of variations in imaging performance over areas of different product thickness. Dual-energy systems offer a solution to this challenge, but they aren’t ideal because of cost and limitations on how much imaging variance these systems can handle. Furthermore, many applications, particularly PET containers, do not require the cost and sophistication of dual-energy systems to achieve superior detection performance – making these systems superfluous.

PET containers, especially ones that are large or irregularly shaped, often have reduced inspection sensitivity in thinner parts of the container due to overexposure of X-ray power – often called “burn through” in the X-ray industry. Think of burn through as looking at a coin while holding it up to a very bright light: the bright light overwhelms your eyes – overexposes them – and you can’t see anything.

To counteract the impact of X-ray imaging overexposure, Peco InspX is pleased to announce its new image processing software, Image Right. Image Right uses powerful software to dynamically adjust each image to optimize its inspection potential. The net result is a consistent inspection that reflects the very best that can be achieved in that container – all automatically.

According to Rich Cisek, CEO of Peco InspX: “Anyone who has inspected large PET containers with an X-ray system understands firsthand how overexposure at the container edges can reduce inspection performance. Our Image Right software makes such reduced sensitivity a thing of the past – and because the image normalization process is completely automatic, the customer doesn’t need to do anything to utilize this capability! In most containers, the same inspection results can be achieved in the least sensitive parts of the container as the most sensitive regions”.
