Design Features of Our Top-Down Machines

This is a more detailed look at the design features of our top-down systems: one of the most advanced systems you can buy in the marketplace.

We have three types of systems: a 510 mm-wide system; a 900 mm-wide system; and a case-inspector, which is a meter wide and has an aperture opening of roughly 17 inches. They’re all built on a modular platform.

What makes these systems unique?

  1. Solid as a Rock

We make sure we can back up the claim that our products are “well made”. There are never loose wires. A solid-state computer is included, as well as precise imaging systems. These are extremely safe to own and operate – they pass the most rigorous safety standards and come up with a Class 4 safety system.

  1. Stellar Software

At the end of the day, most customers are buying systems to find the “difficult-to-detect” contaminants; because those are the reasons for recalls. Every competitor on the market can detect 2 mm stainless steel in a pouch with their top-down system. But our system can find wires, including aluminum wires, and certain types of plastic much more easily. This is particularly true with high-noise products.

To put it simply: our software is better.  We design in Silicon Valley; the software is engineered specifically for our top-down units; and we have an entire team of software engineers that are constantly improving it in-house. For customers, this means better detection and lower false-reject rates.

  1. Diagnostic Reports

These machines come with a phenomenally flexible remote diagnostic program. We are particularly passionate about this key aspect. Plugging a machine into the internet is nothing – that just tells you have a connection.  But we’ve carefully engineered our systems so that every aspect of the machine operation is logged and can be used for troubleshooting purposes.

Our technicians aren’t going to say things like, “That problem didn’t happen when I came out to see the machine”; we find it, and we fix it, because we can see every issue that happened with the machine, logged safely in the database. This is a major differentiator from other inspection machines in the field.

  1. Ease of Ownership

This isn’t an IKEA dresser: We ensure easy machine assembly and disassembly. Cleaning and maintenance are simple procedures. Things are straightforward for even the most basically-trained personnel.

In a top-down world, a lot of flexibility is required of your machine. It needs to be easy to change things: one day you might be inspecting pouches, the next day you might switch to big bags. You want to make sure your workers can do all of that.

  1. Parts Availability

If you’re buying a machine made in China or Japan, the maintenance parts need to come from those countries, as well. Our machines were made in the USA, meaning the parts arrive more quickly for North American customers.

We also stock parts worldwide, as we have multiple global locations. We understand the X-ray business is about availability, and all parts of our machines are consistently stocked and available.

  1. Customization

Most top-down customers have a wide range of products they want to inspect all on the same line. We make it easy to select and set-up new products with a touchscreen on the face of the machine.
